Herringbone Flooring, London

Bespoke Herringbone & Plank Oak Flooring — Private Residence, Hampstead NW3

This landmark project in Hampstead NW3 spans an impressive 5,500 sq ft private residence arranged over four floors, prioritising the balance of elegance and everyday practicality. From the outset, herringbone flooring was selected for the home’s most formal spaces, helping to introduce a sense of heritage and presence that suits the property’s architectural scale and setting.

The entrance hallway and principal reception rooms are laid in bespoke Medium Smoked European oak herringbone, enhancing symmetry and drawing the eye through the space. In contrast, wide plank boards were installed in the kitchen/dining area, bedrooms, and connecting corridors, softening the atmosphere and creating a calmer, more contemporary flow for daily living.

To unify all four levels, the staircase was fully clad in matching solid wood timber, creating a continuity that ties the home together from top to bottom. The result is a cohesive yet dynamic flooring scheme that elevates the architecture while remaining perfectly suited to modern family life in NW3.

Materials and approach

Using an Elements Iron Oak Herringbone finish, this beautiful flooring was designed for practicality without compromising on style.

We used oversized herringbone, which maintained the timeless, classic and high-end look of traditional wood, whilst also being quick and easy to install with built-in underlay backing and the click-lock system.

Our LVT & Laminate Flooring range is always bespoke and made to measure, and this approach ensured the best results in this project.

Process & Installation

Our click lock installation method means no glue or nails. We use a subfloor preparation, which the LVT then fits over. The process is typically faster than glued-down natural wood, and lends itself to the smooth integration between the kitchen and the living area, as can be seen in the gallery photos.

Results

With a stunning finish, this floor is highly practical, water resistant, and easy to clean and maintain. In a household with children and pets, this durable and enduring style is built to last and gives a beautiful natural finish for a family home.

FAQs

What is LVT?

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a durable, water-resistant flooring made to replicate natural wood. It provides a realistic look and texture whilst being resistant to scratches and stains, making it a great choice for kitchens

Can I install LVT myself?

You can, and we do offer supply only, but we strongly recommend taking advantage of our installation team. Our subfloor preparation method is crucial to secure installation, and will impact the lifespan of the flooring.

How long does LVT take to install?

Installation time and cost may vary depending on the size of the room but our team will be able to advise. The advantage of luxury vinyl tile flooring is that it is faster to install than many other materials.

What are the alternatives to LVT?

We stock a range of alternative flooring types, including timber, solid wood and engineered oak. Each of these has its own unique benefits in terms of cost, durability, appearance and maintenance requirements, but our team will be able to advise on the best fit for any setting.
